Burns Night

Thursday is Burns Night, when all good Scotsmen have a Burns Supper.

I'm having friends round on Friday for haggis, neeps and tatties. We'll start with cock-a leekie soup, and finish with raspberry cranachan, made from a mixture of whipped cream, whisky, honey, and fresh raspberries topped with toasted oatmeal.

Can't you just feel the hairs ripple on my chest?

In the meantime, here's how you address the Haggis (well, just an extract).

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, (sonsie = cheeky)
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place, (aboon = above)
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The raspberry concoction sounds yummy but. . .Haggis? I'm not sure.

Now wouldn't you rather have some Texas barbeque? Baked beasn? Pecan pie. Or even a bowl of chili?

Haggis is delicious. Ask anyone who has tasted it-but you're right. So many people are put off by the idea of what it is...
